Aging is indeed quite a depressing thought for many persons. This is compounded by the thought of the associated hair loss. Old age is often synonymous with a bald spot on one’s head and this can be very difficult for some people. Fortunately, several natural alternatives exist that give excellent results in treating hair loss. Traditional medications available on the market are often associated with long term side effects. Herbs, on the other hand, provide a natural means of treating hair loss with limited side effects. Three such herbal treatments are:
• Green Tea
• He Shou Wu
• Gink Biloba

Green Tea
Many people would never believe that Green Tea might possibly be among the most effective treatments for hair loss. Despite this belief, Green Tea contains catechins. These compounds can restrict the 5-alpha-reductase enzyme which converts testosterone into DHT. It is this chemical which often results in male baldness. Furthermore, Green Tea has other properties which help to relax blood vessels and hence, improve circulation. This may also help to counter hair loss. Should you choose to use this remedy, it is recommended that you not drink more than 300 milligrams or 5 cups of this remedy each day as consuming excess Green Tea may result in headaches, vomiting and insomnia.

He Shou Wu
For generations, the Chinese have used He Shou Wu in the treatment of hair loss. When processed, this herbal medicine helps to sustain the kidney and liver which are the foundation of essence and blood, according to Chinese traditional medicine. This arose from the belief that blood from the liver supplies the head and by extension the hair, while liver essence is responsible for storage of semen and controlling the aging process, a key aspect in the hair loss process. He Shou Wu, considered one of the most effective hair loss remedies, has been shown through clinical trials to promote hair re-growth in 60% of the persons using it. He Shou Wu may be purchased in most herbal stores of Chinese origin at a price of about $2.00 per 100 tablet bottle. The recommended daily dose is 5 tablets with each meal *i.e. three times a day).

Ginko Biloba
It is a common belief that the circulation of blood to the skin and brain can be increased by intake of Ginko Biloba. This increased circulation also increases the volume of nutrients being sent to each hair follicle, which in turn helps to reduce and even prevent hair loss. Dosage may vary but on average 120-160mg of the dry extract in 3 divided doses each day is generally suggested by most herbalists.

As the reports of side effects with synthesized medications continue to increase, the safety of natural herbal supplements becomes a welcome alternative. For those generally opposed to man-made drugs, these ancient remedies for hair loss may be quite useful to you. Just be sure that you consult your doctor before deciding to try any natural remedy.
