It's easy to fall into a trap when you get into affiliate marketing. You can find yourself spending money, but not making any in return. This article will discuss how to keep your spending under control and maximize your income. It's not the most exciting thing in the world, but that's how cashflow affiliate marketing works.

Most of the time, you'll have already spent some money once you've joined an affiliate program. It may not be much, but between paying for a new domain name and about three months worth of web hosting, you can expect to have paid around $40. You may believe that such a miniscule amount isn't worth putting in your books.

Think again - as even this small amount is a legitimate business expense, which can be used to offset your affiliate earnings and reduce that taxes you need to pay. Rest assured, once the cash starts coming, tax agencies will want a piece, so protect yourself against this. That doesn't mean you can start spending willy-nilly and write it all off. It doesn't work that way; you need to remember to keep your expenses to what's absolutely required. This is using cashflow affiliate marketing.

Watch Your Advertising Expenses

Once you get in the advertising game, this will give you another expense that you need to manage carefully. With the majority of pay-per-click services, including Google Adwords or MSN Ad Center, it's up to you to set the maximum bid for each ad. Also, consider either a daily or monthly expense limit.

Cashflow affiliate marketing lets you settle on what you want to risk on each advertisement. This is entirely dependent on how much money you've set aside to spend that month on advertising - the quality of the ad or product is irrelevant. For example, consider this: you want to spend $150 the first month, split across three separate ad campaigns. That means you'll be dedicating only $50 to each to campaign that month, which means $1.50 a day.

Find Your Sales per 100 Clicks Number

After you've analyzed your actual pay-per-clicks for each advertisement, the next step is to determine the amount of sales you need to make per 100 clicks in order to gain money. Once you know this, you'll know if the campaign is worth your time and money or not. This is another key element of cashflow affiliate marketing.

The goal with your first set of ads is to establish which ones are going to turn a profit. This is why you start small, such as with the $1.50 a day example above. Here's another cashflow affiliate marketing keystone: for each campaign, you'll want to use two different ads, running each of them for half the total number of impressions. This way, which ad is the best will become apparent. Once a winner has been declared in the first set of ads, replace the failing ad with another one, and repeat the cycle.

Pick an End Date

Your next objective will be to decide on a date that each ad will end. Generally, this will be the end of the month, but if you decide to cut it short prior to that, that's not a problem. Alternately, if you're finding an ad to be very lucrative, let it continue to run or even divert more funding to its daily or monthly limit.

End dates are important, as it can be easy to get distracted by performing other marketing tasks. While your attention is elsewhere, you may return to find your ads have losing money for a while. In many cases, you can effectively decide if an ad is worth continuing after only two weeks, based on the impressions. Optimally, getting to 100 clicks your aim, but if you've reached 75 without a single buyer, it may be time to ditch that ad.

Keep these rules of cashflow affiliate marketing in mind - keep accurate records for each campaign, and you'll find yourself making money where you were once losing it.
