Optics - Corrective Glasses: Todays Technology Delivers Superior Stylish Optics

Optical glasses are generally softer than window glass so gentle touch is required. They are specified according to their optical and internal properties. "Glass" is a broad term, and many optical glasses are fairly soft and easily scratched. Optical glasses are able to accumulate light energy in excited active (luminescence) centers from which electrons (holes) or atoms (ions) are released and localized in the glass network at some distance.

Glasses
Most optical glasses are divided into glass groups, which include glasses with a similar chemical composition and thus also have a similar optical position. Among them, those optical glasses are of importance which is generally called flint glass, dense flint glass, dense barium flint glass etc. Optical glasses according to the invention can be prepared employing a suitable manufacturing process known per se. It has been found now that such a requirement can be fulfilled when the substitutes for the optical glasses are prepared by the casting technique, by starting from a polymerizable liquid allylcarbonate composition.

Lenses
Lenses shall be substantially matched in color and density. Lenses and supporting materials, are produced or reproduced to individual specific formulas; and which given formulas include the Rx for foci, lens power, the specifications or mold for the form, size, shape and structure of the lens and/or of the supporting material and indications for the proper placement for fitting to the eyes. These need to be fitted for their application, such as the centers, the plane and the angle.

Lenses must be made from optical glass, a special kind of glass which is much purer and more uniform than ordinary glass. Experience in producing and mounting ophthalmic glasses is a combination of education and skill in both mechanical functions and technical knowledge. An optical instrument consisting only of lenses has an optical axis that is clearly defined, and the central (co-axial) sequence of the lenses can be easily machined on the lathe. Thus, such experience refers to theoretical knowledge, education and practical training, skill and proficiency in all functions related to the required mechanical and technical knowledge pertaining to the producing and reproducing of ophthalmic lenses and kindred products to given formulas.
