Whenever we are in doubt about whether we are eating too much, we tend to look for answers on the Internet or with our healthcare providers as to what the ideal intake should be. Unfortunately, the answers that we find in all places are limited to the amount of calorific content that we are expected to ingest. In a nation carried by the storm of counting calories, there are very few people who are concerned and worried about the content of the calories. Neither does anyone bother to understand the amount of vitamins and minerals that an average body requires to stay healthy.

The reason why the nation seems to be possessed with the calorie ghost is because of the fact that our nation needs sprucing up. Overeating is a common problem among many Americans and needs to be checked. Most doctors, healthcare professionals, fitness instructors and nutritionists provide instructions on the basis of the amount of calories that we should be taking each day. This is done taking into account the body weight, the amount of exercise, age and gender. There is obviously a large treasure of research that has been conducted on calories and the requirement for each body type to assist the healthcare professionals in advising people on a diet plan.

There is no use hiding behind excuses such as a thyroid problem or hormonal disturbances. The fact is that the most prevalent cause of obesity is overeating and unless this is corrected, the nation will never be able to become leaner, healthier and disease free. It is surprising that we consider that our nation has health conscious citizens and at the same time statistics show that the highest levels of obesity are found here. Would it not be pertinent, then to try and attack the main cause of obesity and develop something that attacks the issue of overeating?

And what could that something be? The one thing that obese people are always conscious and embarrassed about is the fact that they eat more than required. Often they hide behind statement like I hardly eat but I have no clue how I a putting on so much flab. So the answer seems very simple, does not it? We need to develop a calorie armband that can be programmed according to our body so that it calculates the amount of calories that we have burnt. It also needs to calculate the calorie intake. And the moment the balance goes awry, it should send out a loud alarm signaling to the wearer and others in the vicinity that this is where overeating is occurring.
