Malaysia - Self Limiting Belief

I was having a casual conversation with a friend of mine the other day, I was telling him that I just met a new client who owns more than twenty cars. So I ask him what hell are we both doing, we drive only one car. My friend responded that how is it possible for a person to own and drive twenty cars, I said that guy might be making a million or more a year, my friend again responded he is not even sure he is able to make a million even for the whole of his life. Generally, that friend of mine does not believe that he can even make a million dollar. He believes that one person should drive only one car. That is what motivational expert referred to as self limiting belief. A person must break through his or her own limiting belief if he or she wants to achieve much more in life. If a person has such a self limiting belief that he will never make a million, basically he will keep on reminding himself and his brain that making a million is totally out of question for him and even if there is a golden opportunity presented to him, he too would believe that the deal is too good to be true for him and he might just pass on the opportunity. If a person believe that owning and driving a car is already sufficient, he will not take concerted effort to earn more money and buy more. In reality that is no law or regulation that forbid a person to own twenty cars except the self limiting belief of the person concerned.
The human brain is such a fantastic organ of our body that seemed to have no limit as far as memory capacity is concerned. As soon as a person is born into this world, his brain will start to pick up information good or bad from the environment he live in, much of the information come from the parents, the media, newspaper, book etc. Based on all event of life that the person has gone through, the brain has records of all the experiences for as long as that person live and very often that form the basis where all future decision are made.
I had the opportunity to speak with that friend of mine again and this time is about cars in Malaysia. The type of cars that is favoured and liked by Malaysian public are the Japanese made cars although European cars are also becoming popular recently. The reason why Malaysian like Japanese cars is because the Japanese car tend to fetch better resale value. I personally have driven quite a few different types of cars but all are Japanese cars and only the latest car that I drive is an American brand albeit made in Korea. Now that the auto market is opening up and we begin to see many European model hitting our shore and one of those I fancy is the VW Golf model that was recently introduced in the market. A 1.6L model of Golf is retailed at around RM160K about 60% more expensive than the corresponding Japanese model and probably double the price of a Korean made 1.6L model. My friend commented that not many people will buy those cars like VW Golf which he said is expensive and not many people will be able to afford the depreciation that come with buying of the car. Apparently he was saying that he would never buy the VW Golf even if he like it very much. The real fact is that every things under the sun is relative to each other like the price of cars and the income a person earn. So I told my friend If we are not able to afford the VW Golf or any other more expensive cars, then it only mean one thing, it means that we do not make money fast enough. I know of people who make a lot of money and own many cars, to them, depreciation is never a problem as long as they enjoy owning and driving the cars, to them, nothing is expensive.
Ever wonder why when come to buying things, many buy what they can afford rather than what they like. Just like when we go to a restaurant, we tend to choose what to eat based on the right side of the menu, the price tag. How nice if we could choose our food by just looking only at the left side of the menu irrespective of what is printed on the right side. That is always possible if we make money fast enough and for us to be able to make more money than we used to, we must first discard our own self limiting belief and start to believe that making a million a year or more is indeed possible.
So, if you find that many things that you like are beyond your reach, then it is about time you relook at your earning power as you may not be earning money fast enough, give it a thought. Also take a good look at your belief, are those belief you consciously choose to believe or belief that was generated by the various event and experience and deeply planted in the sub conscious part of your mind without even you realising it. With those belief deeply planted in your sub conscious mind, references will be made to those belief when a person need to make a decision. So whatever belief one has will eventually affect the decision one make. Therefore if one has whole set of self limiting belief with him, there is indeed so much he can only achieve in life.
