| 1) |
When washing
your car, try to use pails of waters instead of water
hose. When you leave your running tap for 10 minutes,
you’ll lose up to 400 liters of water. If you ever
use only 2 pails of waters, you’ll get an astounding
saving of 382 liters of water. |
| |
|
| 2) |
Exercise your hand-washing
laundry chores by using full basin instead of running
tap. If you opt for a washing machine, fully loading it
up with your clothes is highly recommended as it uses
up the same amount of water compared to having it half
loaded. |
| |
|
| 3) |
Try to use pails of water
for every gardening activity you may have like watering
plants and cleaning the drain. Watering your plants early
in the morning is far much better as the temperature and
wind speed are the lowest. This reduces loss from water
evaporation. |
| |
|
| 4) |
Don’t leave your water
tap running when washing your dishes or vegetables. Use
a sink full of water instead. This will save your water
up to 110 liters. |
| |
|
| 5) |
Ensure that your house if
water-leak free. It could happen to your house as many
homes have hidden water leaks. Read your water meter before
and after an interval of time, say 2 hours, and ensure
that no water is being used during that time. If the meter
does not read exactly the same, then there could be a
possibility of water leaking in your home. |
| |
|
| 6) |
Check your water faucets
for any leak. If you can see water dripping from the faucets,
replace the washers. If your faucet is dripping at the
rate of one drop per second, you can expect to waste up
to 2,700 gallons per year which will add to the cost of
water and sewer utilities. |
| |
|
| 7) |
Check for toilet tank leaks
by adding food coloring to the tanks. If there’s
any leak, you could see color in your toilet bowl within
30 minutes. Check the toilet for any worn out, corroded
or bent parts. You could find most of these replacements
at your DIY stores easily. |
| |
|
| 8) |
Avoid flushing the toilet
unnecessary. Dispose all your tissues, insects or even
cigarette butts in the trash rather than the toilet. |
| |
|
| 9) |
Don't let water run while
shaving or washing your face. Brush your teeth first while
waiting for water to get hot, then wash or shave after
filling the basin |
| |
|
| 10) |
When hand cleaning your dishes,
fill one sink or basin with soapy water. Quickly rinse
under a slow-moving stream from the faucet. |
| |
|
| 11) |
Do not use running water
to thaw meat or other frozen foods. Defrost food overnight
in the refrigerator or by using the defrost setting on
your microwave. |
| |
|
| 12) |
If you are using water heaters
often, insulate your water pipes. You'll get hot water
faster plus avoid wasting water while it heats up. |
| |
|
| 13) |
When adjusting water temperatures
of your water heaters, instead of turning water flow up,
try turning it down. If the water is too hot or cold,
turn the offender down rather than increasing water flow
to balance the temperatures. |
| |
|
| 14) |
Do not hose down your driveway
or sidewalk. Use a broom to clean leaves and other debris
from these areas. Using a hose to clean a driveway can
waste hundreds of gallons of water. |
| 1) |
Create awareness
among your children on the need to conserve water |
| |
|
| 2) |
Encourage your employees
to conserve water or promote water conservation at your
workplace. Opt to have water conservation be put in employee
orientation manual or training program. |
| |
|
| 3) |
Report all significant water
losses (broken pipes, open hydrants, errant sprinklers,
abandoned free-flowing wells, etc.) to the property owner
or local authorities. |
| |
|
| 4) |
Encourage your friends and
neighbors to be part of a water conscious community. Promote
water conservation in community newsletters, on bulletin
boards and by example. |
| |
|
| 5) |
Conserve water whenever you
go. Do not limit that to your home. Don’t waste
water just because somebody else if footing the bill,
such as in the hotels. |
