One of the most flexible and portable sleep surfaces in the world is the futon. Originating in Japan, the futon has become a popular alternative to the traditional western mattress. The Japanese have long developed ingenious ways to maximize available space and the futon is a perfect example. When a woman is pregnant, it is difficult to get comfortable and enjoy a good night's sleep. This might be a good time to upgrade to a new mattress with a comfort-top padding. Ah, the almighty dust mite. It used to be thought that although dust mites, indeed, do look creepy crawly and pretty scary when you look at them up close (you must magnify them to look at them, as they are microscopic insects), that they were relatively harmless. There is one telltale sign that the existing heater is not working since the bed is simply not staying warm. Now before you run out and buy a new heater, there some common sense troubleshooting that should be done first. One of the most popular trends in mattresses these days is visco elastic foam otherwise referred to as memory foam. Memory foam was first developed for use in the space program during the nineteen seventies though the product was never used in manned space flight missions. Early waterbeds were designed with a one-piece bladder-type mattress. This would result in the water sloshing back and forth and not everyone was wild about the feeling. The time has come to purchase a new box spring and mattress set. So you drive down to the local furniture store in search of affordable bedding set. If spending the least amount of money possible is the goal, you have already short changed yourself. Whether we know it or not, we spend a significant amount of our lifetime in bed. The trend in recent years has been toward soft-sided waterbeds otherwise known as hybrid waterbeds. The thick padding and foam frame construction of these hybrids had largely done away with the need for an electric heating system. To many of us, the task of assembling hard sided water may seem a little daunting. Framing, heaters, mattresses and chemicals seem like more work than it is worth, but the result is a great sleeping environment that is well worth the effort. So you have slept on a waterbed for many years and now you or your sleeping partner has decided to make a change. The decision to change quite often involves switching to a traditional innerspring mattress, replacing a worn bladder type mattress with a new one, or upgrading to a hybrid waterbed mattress. The infamous little tag on your mattress, bedding and other upholstered furniture has been the butt of jokes for decades. For years, many people actually believed that they would be breaking the law if the tag were removed. Many people enjoy the comfort and warmth of a quality waterbed. Since the early days of a simple water-filled bladder surrounded by a wooden frame, waterbed technology has developed making modern beds more comfortable, more efficient and safer. The days of a water-filled vinyl bladder surrounded by a simple wooden frame are quickly fading into history. Waterbed designs have undergone a sea change as it were and these changes can be seen in the soft sided or hybrid waterbed. The traditional hard sided or framed waterbed is more popular than ever. Once thought to be passe, hard sided waterbeds have maintained a loyal following among those folks who appreciate the style and function of a properly designed waterbed ensemble. As any science student who has looked at a drop of water under a microscope can you, water chemistry is indeed a complex subject. The United States and other developed countries are blessed with stable water systems that allow for drinking, bathing and all the other uses we have for fresh water. The human body is constantly shedding millions of dead skin cells and hair. This material is not a health hazard in itself, but the accretion of this material can be become a welcome home to insects and bacteria. The stuff that naturally falls away from us can be found throughout even the cleanest home especially in our beds. There was a time when waterbeds were no more than a vinyl water bladder surrounded by a wooden frame and topped with a thin piece of foam. Most often a vinyl sheet would line the frame in case the bladder or mattress sprung a leak. Many couples take pleasure in sharing their love of the out of doors, but might enjoy it more if they could easily have some of the comforts of home. Enter the camping air bed. Microwave ovens, satellite television, non-stick cookware and Velcro are just a few of the products brought to us through advancements in the now decades-old space program. Adding to this impressive list of consumer products from outer space is what has come to be referred to as memory foam. The introduction of memory or visco elastic foam in the early nineteen nineties was a revolution in modern sleep systems. The comfort of a material that would literally mold itself to your body shape has drawn many of us to make the switch from a conventional mattress system. 1 2 3 4 | ||
